2011 Chicago Auto Show Diary: 2012 Dodge Charger muscle car unwrapped!

Chrysler finally launched their muscle car, The Dodge Charger SRT8 in Chicago. The sedan is more muscular than its predecessors. It has a huge 6.4 litre Hemi V8 engine which kicks out 465 lb-ft of torque. The previous version had a 6.1 litre engine.

The SRT8 will be more expensive than its 2010 variant.The body has been given many changes such as a wide and tall grille, a new bonnet design,etc. The transmission provided is a 5 speed automatic with paddle shifters. The suspension can be adjusted for different conditions viz. auto and sport and the car gets an active exhaust system which results in better fuel economy.

Dodge Charger

The car has been given a special feature to use full or partial engine power to save fuel. The Charger SRT8 and Challenger SRT8 fall in the same muscle segment of cars. The Hemi engine can make the car reach a top speed of 175 mph. According to Dodge CEO Ralph Gilles, there is a possibility of a manual transmission in the fututre for SRT8.
