2012 Fiat Linea sedan and Grande Punto hatchback launched!
Fiat India, earlier today launched the 2012 models of the Linea sedan and the Grande Punto hatchback in India through a launch event held at New Delhi. Both the Punto and the Linea retain their range of engines, albeit with higher fuel economy, which quite frankly is the need of the hour. Fiat has also improved the ground clearance on both the Linea and the Punto, making these cars more suited for the rough and tumble of Indian road conditions, conditions where it isn’t uncommon to find speed breakers more like small hills and pot holes the size of small craters.
Apart from these aspects, the Linea sedan also gets a couple of functional bit which will be highly appreciated by prospective Linea owners. The Linea now comes with automatic headlamps and automatic rain sensing wipers. There features are segment leading ones and will improve the driving experience of the solidly built Italian sedan. The Linea’s ground clearance now measures 185mm while the base version of the car gets beige interiors and a factory fitted stereo unit. The Linea sedan’s top end diesel variant gets leather seats, chrome garnishes in the interiors and 16 inch alloy wheels.

The mileage of two engine variants of the Linea have been improved while that of the high performance T-Jet engine remains untouched. The Linea 1.4 Petrol will now deliver 14.6Kmpl while the 1.3 Multijet diesel engine will deliver 20.3 Kmpl. The Linea will also be available in a new Oceanic Blue shade. Coming to the 2012 Grande Punto, while the car doesn’t show any changes on the exteriors, the ground clearance goes up to 195mm, which is a class leading feature. This apart, the base variants of the Punto get more kit in the form of a stereo, power windows and central locking.
Fiat also claims to have improved the Grande Punto’s mileage. All engines except the Punto 90 HP now carry higher mileage claims. The 1.2 FIRE petrol’s mileage is rated at 15.2 Kmpl, while that of the 1.4 FIRE petrol and the 1.3 Multijet diesel engine are 14.6 and 20.3 Kmpl respectively. Interestingly, the Linea diesel claims a higher fuel economy than the Punto diesel. The Punto will also be available with the Oceanic Blue color scheme. Fiat has also announced introductory prices for the 2012 Linea and Grande Punto, which could go up in due course of time.
