Could the 2013 Fiat Panda take on VW Up! in India?

FIAT has unveiled the 2013 FIAT Panda at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The new family hatchback has been around from the 1980′s. The new version of the Panda will go on sale in Europe next year but this sensible family car could be the product that might come to the rescue of FIAT in India. The Panda seems to be a product that FIAT India could think of adding to its list of cars.

The Panda competes with cars like the recently revealed Volkswagen Up! which, as we all know, is on its way to India. FIAT has a good chance to take on the German car maker in India with a reasonably priced product and attempt to derail VW’s Up! plans for India. Now, FIAT cars haven’ had to best of days in the country. The Punto, although being a good product has failed generate volumes for the car maker.

The Panda might change this. Also, FIAT does not have a car in the entry level B-segment of the market. Thus,  if FIAT can the Panda under the current Punto, it could offer a nice alternative to customers who would’ve either gone for the Maruti Suzuki WagonR or the VW Up! Let us hope FIAT India at least considers the Panda for India. The FIAT Bravo has been generating quite a bit of buzz lately since the car features on the company’s website.

We think, instead of going for a premium hatchback, FIAT could consider the lower end of the segment which is more likely to generate volumes. Coming to the car in question, the third generation of the FIAT Panda has been improved over its previous version in terms of quality as well as economy. The Panda gets a 65 bhp TwinAir two-cylinder petrol engine. Customer also get a choice of a four-pot 69 bhp petrol and a 75 bhp 1.3 litre MultiJet diesel.
