This is one story that has managed to take more than a year to unfold ever since we brought you a scoop from a Japanese car magazine which suggested a very plain jane looking 2012 Honda Civic. As it turns our, they were right, at least by my tastes, as styling as we all know simply boils down to personal preferences. Get this fact straight, Honda Civics traditionally haven’t been lookers that would have women swooning all over you but solid pieces of Japanese engineering that rode well, handled great and in markets abroad, got a delectable range of revvy yet frugal petrol engines.

The current Indian Honda Civic was radical, for Indian tastes as we were brought up on a diet of uninspiring cars like the Toyota Corolla and compared to those, the Civic was the young blooded stud car in town. And for this very reason, many middle aged and elderly men preferred to look the other way patronize Toyota and their Corolla rather than the Civic. Perhaps, this is what Honda wants to change and thus we have the 2012 Honda Civic that makes do with the same, sweet 1.8 Liter i-VTEC engine producing 140 horses, but with brand new styling that actually seems to take one step backward to look more like the All New Honda City.

Given the fact that, in developing India, the average Civic buyer is still the 40ish guy who is doing reasonably well for himself. Probably it is him that Honda SIEL want to target going forward, for the next few years. Thus the Civic is endowed with very safe styling that might even prompt rude unpublishables from Honda fans in the developed world while this very thing might go down just fine in the developing world. Does the 2012 Honda Civic bake your biscuit? We’d love to hear what you think in the comments section down below.
