India’s most advanced compact SUV is here. Yes, we’re talking about the talk of the town, the 2012 Mahindra Quanto Compact SUV. What is so advanced about the Quanto you may ask. We’ll come to that just in a bit. Before that, here’s a overview of the Quanto. The compact SUV is diesel powered, can seat 7 adults, measures under 4 meters in length and comes with competitive prices that start at IN 5.82 lakhs, for the base C2 variant. Mahindra has put out a bunch of videos that will tell you everything there is know about this compact SUV and we’re carrying all of it, right in this story.
Before we get to the videos, we’ll tell you why the Quanto is as advanced as we say it is. The crux of the matter lies at the heart of the Quanto, in its engine. The mCR1000 common rail turbo diesel engine uses twin turbochargers. The twin turbo layout, along with the 1.5 Liter, 3 cylinder layout, makes the mCR1000 diesel engine the smallest twin turbo diesel engine in the world. The engine produces an impressive 100 Bhp-240 Nm and is the lightest diesel engine in the Mahindra’s homegrown range of motors. The Quanto gets airbags, ABS, EBD, a start-stop system and reverse sensors on the top end C8 variant.
The Quanto shares its platform with the Ingenio pick up series and uses a shortened body-0n-frame chassis. The SUV rides on 15 inch wheels and is rear wheel driven. A 4 wheel drive of the Quanto is in the works and that model is expected to have an even more powerful diesel engine. Mahindra plans to export the Quanto to Europe and South Africa in the coming days. For the Indian market though, Mahindra hopes to sell over 5,000 units of the Quanto each month. Meanwhile here are a bunch of videos of the Quanto, along with the technical specifications of the hot new compact SUV in town.
