2012 Renault Scala sedan launched in India at a price of INR 6.99 lakhs Ex-Showroom Delhi
Renault India has just launched the Scala C-Segment sedan, its fifth product for the Indian car market. The Nissan Sunny based C-segment sedan, which has been named as the Scala by Renault, is priced at INR 6.99 Lakhs ex-showroom Delhi. The Renault Scala is available in both petrol and diesel engined variants. Renault India is said to have concentrated on excellent ride quality which has been a hallmark of all the Renault cars that have been launched in India. The Scala, like the rest of the cars will reflect that philosophy even as the car will not compromise on handling abilities.
The Scala gets revised styling to differentiate it from its sibling, the Nissan Sunny sedan. The 2012 Scala gets new headlamps which get a smoked finish while the front grille and bumper feature the Renault family face, with the badging of the French automaker being displayed prominently on the grille. The rear of the car gets a refreshed tail lamps. On the inside, Renault has given the Scala lighter tone colors on the dashboard and other trims, to make the already airy cabin premium looking when compared to the Nissan Sunny. The redesigning has happened at Renault India’s Mumbai styling studio.
Apart from these changes, the Scala is essentially a rebadged and restyled Nissan Sunny sedan, and thus retains all the latter’s positives like a good ride quality, spacious interiors and a frugal diesel engine. The Scala gets the 1.5 Liter HR15DE petrol engine outputting 99 Bhp and the 1.5 Liter K9K turbo diesel engine generating 85 Bhp-200 Nm. Both the engines are mated to a five speed manual transmission. Safety features on the top end models of the Scala comprise of twin airbags, ABS and EBD. The car is available in four variants, two each in petrol and diesel engine options.
The petrol engined Scala is priced at INR 6.99 lakhs for the RxE base variant while the RxL variant costs INR 7,85 lakhs. The RxL diesel variant is priced at INR 8.69 lakhs while the top end RxZ diesel variant sells for INR 9.57 lakhs. All prices reflect ex-showroom Delhi figures. From the variants, it clearly seems like Renault favouring the diesel engined model of the Scala, with better equipment levels given that the diesel variants are expected to bring in the big volumes for the car maker. With the pricing for the Scala, Renault has once again demonstrated the premium positioning of its cars vis-a-vis of that of Nissan, by pricing the Scala nearly a lakh rupees more than equivalent variants of the Sunny.
