2012 Toyota Etios Sedan gets beige interiors in India: Like what you see?
When Toyota launched their entry level product, the Etios sedan, many eyebrows were raised due to the various corners the Japanese automaker had cut to arrive at a competitive price tag for the Etios. One such corner, and glaringly so was the interiors of the Etios, which while built with hard wearing material didn’t do anything to inspire a car buyer to actually want to buy the car for the way it felt on the inside. Even so, the Etios has managed to do decent volumes, riding on Toyota’s brand value in India, along with the other traditional Toyota traits like high reliability and low maintenance costs.
Even so, the interiors of the Etios which have always remained a sore point of the car, now see some respite in the form of beige trim, that is now offered on the top end variants of the Etios sedan. The beige trim adorns the dashboard and door panels of the Etios, to make for a premium look and feel. The fabric on the seats too get the beige treatment in keeping with the overall look of the beige trim. While it is another story that beige interiors are a bitch to maintain in the dusty and grimy conditions across most Indian cities, Toyota it seems has had to succumb to customer demand.
Earlier this year, Toyota outfitted the Etios sedan and Liva hatchback with darker gray interiors, that somewhat made the insides of these two cars more pleasant. Now, the beige trim could convert many prospective car buyers who had stayed away from the Etios sedan due to the uninspiring interiors. The Toyota Etios is available in both petrol and diesel engined variants. The petrol engine is a 1.5 Liter, 90 Bhp unit that is quite peppy due to the light weight of the Etios. The turbo diesel engine is a 1.4 Liter D-4D unit putting out 70 Bhp-170 Nm.

The Toyota Etios and Liva cars are also exported to South Africa even as the brand has began building these cars in Brazil too. Over the past few months, Toyota has been aggressively building buzz around the Etios by starting a one-make Etios Racing Series, that grooms young motorsport talent in the country. Also, Toyota has introduced a sportier version of the Liva hatchback through the Sportivo TRD body kit. In the coming months, the Etios Liva hatchback could get a 1.5 Liter petrol engine, to make for a hot hatch variant.
