Are you the 2013 Fiat Linea Sedan headed to India?
Even as Fiat India begins to separate its distribution wing with Tata and go it alone in the Indian market through standalone Fiat dealerships, Fiat India’s managing director Rajeev Kapoor was categorical in ruling out a made-for-India small car from the Fiat stable in 2012. So, this leaves us with the Fiat Linea Sedan and Grande Punto Hatchback, which are due to get facelifts in the coming months. Now, we have a possible render of the 2013 Fiat Linea emerging.
The car in the picture looks heavily inspired by Alfa Romeo, a luxury sports car marque under the Fiat umbrella. Apparently, this is how the future Fiat Linea will look. The 2013 Linea is speculated to be showcased at the upcoming 2012 Detroit Motor Show and might feature a Multiair(Fiat acronym for a turbopetrol with variable valve technology) engine. Going by the looks of it and the scheduled arrival into international markets as the 2013 model of the Linea, don’t expect this car to arrive into India any time soon. If anything the 2013 Fiat Linea might arrive into India sometime in 2013 and not like the end of 2012, which is usually when the next year’s model arrives into international markets.
Coming to the Grande Punto Hatchback, this is another car that Fiat India need to facelift in the coming days as the Evo model released internationally has been well accepted by audiences for its striking good looks. As of now, there is no specific time frame in which Fiat India will launch the facelifted Grande Punto in India although 2012 might be a good time for Fiat to slip in facelifted models of both the Linea and the Grande Punto to add some muscle to its diminishing Indian fortunes.
In its second coming to India, Fiat did reasonably well when the Linea and Grande Punto were fresh products. Ever since Fiat got into an alliance with Tata Motors to sell Fiat cars through Tata-Fiat dealerships, the downward spiral has been steady. Let’s hope that the coming year brings cheer to the embattled Italian car makers Indian fortunes, which thus far has limited it to being more of an engine supplier to Indian car brands than a carmaker of repute.
