2013 Fiat Panda 4X4 compact SUV web released; Unveiling at 2012 Paris Motor Show

The 2013 Fiat Panda 4X4 compact SUV quite literally has to be the most compact of the compact SUVs that do duty in countries across the world. With a length measuring 3.68 meters, the Panda 4X4 is one of the smallest SUVs available for sale anywhere in the world. The SUV comes with a high ground clearance, 15 inch tyres, underbody protection, body cladding and other bits and pieces to make it appealing to customers looking for a compact, economical and rugged SUV. The Panda features a full time four wheel drive function with electronic differential locks to justify its off road cred.

The 2013 Panda 4X4 gets the 0.9 liter TwinAir turbo petrol engine outputting 85 Bhp and the 1.3 Liter Multijet2 turbo diesel engine pumping out 75 Bhp as the two power options. Both the engines are mated to a six speed manual gearbox which also has a short first gear for steep inclines off the road, where low end torque talks the loudest. With both the petrol and turbo diesel engines being small capacity units, which need to be kept in their revbands for peak performance or for that matter torque too, the low first gear will thus prove to be particularly useful for the car.

The four wheel drive system of the Panda 4X4 is a full time intelligent, fully automated unit that come with a Torque-On-Demand feature. This feature essentially includes a electronic control unit taking the inputs of various parameters like incline, grip levels and terrain from sensors, to distribute torque to the front or the rear wheels of the car accordingly. Electronic Stability control(ESC) is standard on the Panda and so is ABS, EBD and Airbags, which round off the safety features that is offered on this compact SUV. Suspension layout consists of independent units on all four wheels.

This also means that the Panda 4X4 cannot be subjected to heavy off roading and will rather be limited to light off roading, which is what Fiat would expect potential Panda buyers to indulge in. The 2013 Fiat Panda 4X4 compact SUV will be aimed at a niche market of buyers looking for a rugged alternate to the budget hatchbacks that now abound car markets across the globe. The 2013 Panda 4X4 will see an official unveiling at the 2012 Paris Motor Show that will happen at the end of next month which is when pricing will be announced. The Fiat Panda will go on sale in Europea later this year.
