2013 Honda Civic Crossover: The murmurs only get louder!

A while ago, we brought you a story regarding Honda mulling a compact SUV that could be an alternative to the highly successful Nissan Qashqai. Now, we have news emerging about Honda jumping on to the crossover brigade with a crossover based on the Honda Civic. 2013 is about the time when the Japanese automaker could debut the Honda Civic based crossover, which might be primed for the European market. Honda’s decision of going the crossover way seems to be based on the growing need of either a small car or a crossover for a brand to do well in the highly competitive and mature European car markets.

The good folks at AutoExpress have even gone on to create a couple of speculative renders on how the Civic based crossover could look. Considering that this Crossover will be the big bet that Honda will be placing to challenge the Nissan Qashqai, especially in the European market, expect a diesel motor under the hood. Recently, Honda showcased a 1.6 Liter iDTEC common rail diesel engine which produced 120 bhp of peak power and a very impressive 300 Nm of peak torque. This engine represents the latest in Honda’s diesel technology currently being worked on by ex-F1 Honda engineers.

Honda is promising the best in class mileage and refinement for the 1.6 Liter diesel engine and given that the Honda Civic Crossover’s main role for the European market, expect this engine to be an option for the car model. The Crossover race is now transcending brands across the automotive spectrum. Earlier in the day, we just brought you a story of how Peugeot is mulling a crossover to take on the likes of the just unveiled Ford EcoSport, a model which doesn’t just look sharp but also has a lot riding on it as Ford India is heavily banking on this model to what a Figo did to the Ford’s Indian story.
