At a time when the compact sedan category in India is seeing big action what with the likes of Honda launching the Brio Amaze compact sedan and Tata Motors facelifting the Indigo eCS, Mahindra is all set to make a foray into this thriving segment with the compact sedan variant of the Verito. The Verito CS is expected to come with a notchback styling and could be called the Vibe. Now, the whole moniker of “Vibe”(Notice the absence of O at the end of the name) seems unlikely to be used as a standalone name for the compact sedan variant of the Verito. We’re saying this as every Mahindra car barring the Thar comes with a moniker ending with the letter O. Think, Scorpio, Xylo, Quanto, Bolero and XUV-5 Double O.
2013 Mahindra Verito Notchback/Compact Sedan Render
In that light, the Vibe could be called the Verito Vibe, allowing Mahindra to retain its traditional naming structure for its cars and utility vehicles. Coming to the car in itself, the Verito Vibe is expected to be launched in May 2013. The car will continue to motor on with the 1.5 Liter K9K turbo diesel engine, the same unit that the full sized Verito sedan uses. In the Verito sedan, this Renault sourced engine produces 65 Bhp of peak power and 160 Nm of peak torque. Known for its excellent driveablity and high fuel economy, the 1.5 Liter K9K engine is known to be a long lasting unit, as evidenced by the majority of the Mahindra-Renault Logan doing duty as cabs across the country.
The Verito notchback/compact sedan is expected to take on the likes of the Maruti Swift and the Hyundai i20 in terms of price and positioning. The key aspect to this position will involve the length of the Verito CS, which at under 4 meters in length, will allow the car to be classified as a small car in the Indian car market. This classification leads to a lower excise duty and will therefore allow Mahindra to price the Verito notchback quite competitively. A price warrior that delivers a copious amount of space and a frugal turbo diesel engine at an affordable price point rivaling/undercutting B+ segment hatchbacks. This, ladies and gentlemen, could be the summary of the upcoming Mahindra Verito Compact.
