The Suzuki Swift has been a massive success across the globe, what with over 30 lakh examples of the hatchback sold ever across two generations of the car. The Swift has been a big success in India as well and the best selling B+ segment hatchback in India just got a minor makeover with a few additional features. Dubbed the Swift Star Limited Edition version, the car seems to be aimed at maintaining the buzz around the Swift. The Star Limited Edition variant of the Swift is available with both petrol and diesel engines. These features can be specified with the LXi, VXi, LDi and VDi models of the car at a price of 23,000 rupees over and above the corresponding price of the said variants. The top end ZXi and ZDi variants though are not available with the Limited Edition Star offer. While the diesel powered version of the Swift hatchback continues to sell strongly, sales of the petrol engined version of the car has stumbled over the past few months.
So, Maruti Suzuki dealers are said to be offering the petrol variants of the Swift at a discount of over 30,000 rupees. The Swift Diesel has also joined the discount brigade with the car available at a nominal discount of 5,000 rupees. A week ago, Maruti Suzuki also came up with a limited period instant delivery offer on the Swift Diesel. Sales slowdown notwithstanding, the Swift is the second best selling car in the Indian car market.
The Swift is a fun to drive car let down only by the narrow tyres it sports as Maruti Suzuki has decided to favour fuel efficiency over handling and driving pleasure. The beneficial effects of the narrow tyres on fuel economy are evident on the diesel powered model, which delivers about 15 Kmpl in the city and over 20 Kmpl on the highway in real world conditions.
