2013 Mercedes Benz SL63 AMG sportscar Unveiled!
Ahead of its showcasing at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, Mercedes Benz’s performance division AMG has just thrown the wraps off the 2012 SL63 AMG sportscar. The car features a roadster design with a retractable hard top and can seat two. The two seater roadster will go on sale internationally from June 2012. The 2013 model of the Mercedes Benz SL63 AMG is not just more powerful than the outgoing model, but is also much more fuel efficient and lighter than ever before. Looks though might not be everyone’s cup of tea with the 2013 SL63AMG neither looking sharp nor curvy.
All these changes under the skin make for a much faster car with terrific performance and handling to boot. At the heart of the 2012 SL63 AMG is a 5.5 Liter twin turbo(BiTurbo in Merc speak) engine massaged to produce 529 Bhp of peak power. Torque talks loudest in this twin turbo engine and a full 800 Nm of it will be on offer. The engine is mated to a AMG Speedshift MCT seven-speed sports transmission. All this power and torque on the 2013 SL63 AMG will result in a nought to hundred sprint of 4.2 seconds while top speed is limited at 250 Kph.
It isn’t about the top speed, it is all about the way this car will get there and it will get there very, very quickly. If this racy power and torque outputs still don’t satisfy your cravings, AMG also has lined up a tune up option, which will allow the engine produce 557 Bhp of shove and an awe inspiring 900 Nm of twist. The 0-100 sprint falls by 0.1 second and top speed touches the still-limited 300 Kph mark. The SL63 AMG gets brand new body work from AMG including a new airdam, an AMG radiator grille, LED daytime running lights, side sills, rear lip spoiler, a new rear apron and chromed twin tailpipes.
Weight has been reduced by a mammoth 125 kilograms by the use of aluminum-magnesium chassis. Mercedes Benz claims a fuel economy number of 24 MPG on the European test cycle or 10.4 Kmpl, which is a full 30% higher than the previous model. All the lightening seems to be having an effect on more than just peak performance and the SL63 AMG continues in the trend of high performance cars increasingly becoming more fuel efficient. Pricing and other details are expected to be available during the 2012 Geneva Motor Show.
