This is how the 2013 Mitsubishi Outlander will look, well almost!
At this year’s Tokyo Motor Show, Mitsubishi showed off the Concept PX-MiEV II, an electric hybrid crossover that Mitsubishi will launch in the years to come, in line with the automaker’s renewed focus on hybrid vehicles. Another big takeaway from this concept was the fact that the 2013 Mitsubishi Outlander Crossover will be very similar, design wise to the Concept PX-MiEV II Hybrid showcased at Tokyo.
Only the wing mirrors might be a change on the 2013 Outlander, which should debut in India in 2013 or beyond, that is if Mitsubishi lasts here until then. The current Outlander Crossover, though by no means a big seller for Mitsubishi in India does manage to bring in better numbers than most other product, and quite creditably so especially with the Outlander having only a petrol engine in its portfolio.
With the design of the next generation 2013 Outlander more or less out in the open, it would be up to Mitsubishi to come up with a diesel engine under the hood if it wants to give the Outlander a fighting chance at the hustings. Mitsubishi has been betting big on hybrid power, so much so that the legendary Mitsubishi Lancer EVO’s next generation model could arrive with a diesel hybrid engine.
Considering that the Outlander is a crossover based on the Lancer platform, we won’t be too surprised to see a diesel hybrid engine adorning the 2013 Outlander’s engine bay. Or is it too much to expect Mitsubishi? Currently, the Mitsubishi Outlander sells with a 2.4 Liter MIVEC petrol engine mated to an automatic gearbox which is quite unique in the way it adaptively tunes the gear ratios according to the each drivers’ inputs. All in all, a nice car that is badly let down by its maker, in India at least.
