2013 Volvo XC40 Crossover caught without disguise
At this year’s Paris Motor Show scheduled to happen later this year, Chinese Geely owned Swedish car maker Volvo will launch an entry level product in the form of the XC40 crossover, which is essentially a jacked up V40 with a more aggressive design to go with its crossover badging. Most of the specifications and interiors of the XC40 crossover are expected to be very similar to the V40 hatchback. Even before the official unveiling can happen at Paris, the 2013 Volvo XC40 has been caught uncamouflaged. So, here it is, in all its undisguised glory.
The Volvo XC40 crossover seems like one good looker, with the new design philosophy of Volvo, one which endows the brand with a sporty new appeal, coming to the fore on the crossover. Coming to the engines front, the 2013 Volvo XC40 will get turbo petrol and turbo diesel units that it is expected to borrow from the V40 hatchback. The turbo petrol engines will get a range of tunes varying from 148 Bhp to 250 Bhp. Similarly, the turbo diesel engines are said to be available with states of tune delivering from an entry level 113 Bhp to a range topping 174 Bhp.
Expect the 2013 Volvo XC40 crossover to feature front wheel drive as standard while an all wheel drive variant is also anticipated to be available in the costlier variants. Like the V40, the XC40 also could offer a range of safety bells and tinkles, consonant with most Volvo cars, which bring a range of safety related innovations to the fore. The Volvo XC40 will compete with the likes of the BMW X1 and Audi Q3 range of crossovers in markets across the world. Expect this crossover to be launched in India as well, as the entry level model in Volvo India’s portfolio.
The global launch of the XC40 could happen sometime in 2013, after the preview that is scheduled to happen at Paris 2012. Volvo imports all cars into India through the completely built unit(CBU) route and yet has managed to price its cars extremely competitively. Similarly, the 2013 Volvo XC40 crossover could also be another well priced product, under cutting both the BMW X1 and the Audi Q3. Once that happens, the Volvo XC40 crossover could be the hot seller for Volvo India pulling in big volumes. Until then though, one would hope that Volvo India establishes more dealerships across the country, which is currently the only limiting factor holding back the brand from selling more cars here.
