The Grand i10 hatchback with a short boot attached is what the new Hyundai compact sedan is all about. The car will be launched on the 4th of February 2014, days before the Delhi Auto Expo. The Hyundai Grand i10 compact sedan will share its petrol and diesel engines, and transmissions with its hatchback brother. The Grand i10 compact sedans rivals include the Maruti Dzire and Honda Amaze.
The Maruti YL1 will replace the SX4 sedan in India and the car will be launched by the end of 2014. The YL1 uses the Ertiga’s platform and will share the MPV’s 1.4 liter K Series petrol engine and 1.3 liter Multijet diesel engine. The YL1 will come with well appointed interiors that are better than what’s offered on the SX4. Also, more features will be added to make the car more appealing to buyers. We expect prices of the YL1 to begin at the Rs. 7-8 lakh mark. Will the YL1 be shown at the Delhi Auto Expo? Well, that’s a possibility.
Tata Falcon 5 Compact Sedan
Tata Motors will show a new compact sedan at the Delhi Auto Expo. Presently named the Falcon 5, the compact sedan will be based on the revamped Indica Vista. The production version of the Falcon 5 will have a different name. Tata Motors has claimed that the Falcon range of cars will mark huge improvements in quality and human interface. The Falcon 5 will be a Maruti Dzire rival and will be priced above the Indigo eCS. Engines and gearboxes of the Falcon 5 will be shared with the revamped Vista, which is being called the Falcon 4. So, a 1.4 liter petrol engine and a 1.3 liter Fiat diesel engine is what you can expect in the new Tata compact sedan.
Maruti Dzire Facelift
The Dzire will get a minor refurbishment in 2014 with Maruti Suzuki planning to add new features on the top end variants of the car. Stuff like keyless entry, cruise control, dual tone dashboard and leather wrapped steering wheel are changes on the inside. On the outside, a new front bumper, day time running LEDs and 16 inch alloy wheels could be added. The Dzire Facelift’s engines and trannys will be untouched. What will change however, is the price of the car. The facelifted Dzire with the added features will get pricier by about Rs. 40,000.
Tata Manza Facelift
Tata Motors will give the Manza sedan new features. The car is expected to get inspired by the Falcon 4. Better quality levels and more features will definitely make the spacious Manza more interesting. The fit and finish of the Manza facelift is one aspect that could be improved. The topping as usual could be the price as Tata Motors is known to price its cars very competitively.
Hindustan Ambassador Compact Sedan
Hindustan Motors has decided to shorten the Ambassador length by chopping off the boot. The result is a compact sedan version of the grand old car. The sub-4 meter Ambassador CS could be the lowest priced compact sedan in India. The newly introduced 1.5 liter turbo diesel engine will power the Ambassador CS. Prices will start below Rs. 5 lakhs. The launch will happen sometime in the first six months of 2014.
Hyundai Elantra 2014
The Elantra D segment sedan will get a facelift that takes cues from its global counterparts. The facelifted Elantra will get new front and rear bumpers, a new grille and fog lamps. A OLED infotainment screen, park assist, central armrest and ventilated rear seats are new features on the interiors. The car’s engines and gearboxes will be retained as the Elantra seeks to maintain its hot seller status in India.
Upcoming Fiat Linea
Fiat India will launch a facelifted version of the Linea in early 2014. The Linea facelift has already been launched in countries abroad. The car’s facelifted version gets new front and rear styling. The dashboard’s design is also facelifted. The Indian version of the facelift is expected to come with a 1.4 liter turbo petrol engine and a 1.6 liter turbo diesel engine. Both engines will get 5 speed gearboxes. The facelifted Linea will be positioned above the Linea Classic. Expect a mild upward revision in prices.
Ford Fiesta Refreshed
The Ford Fiesta with the Aston Martin inspired grille up front will come to India sometime next year. The facelifted model’s changes will be mainly on the outside. The insides of the car will get an improved infotainment system and an additional feature or two. The engines and transmissions are also expected to be retained without changes. We reckon that Ford should give the new Fiesta EcoBoost power by adding the 1 liter turbo petrol engine found on the EcoSport. What your take?
Updated Skoda Rapid
The Indian version of the Skoda Rapid will go European in 2014. What this means is, the C segment sedan will get a style makeover that is inspired by the European version of the Rapid. A new front grille, head lamps, bumper and bonnet will be the design elements at the front. At the rear, the tail lamps will be new. Under the hood, status quo is likely. The Rapid with the new design might find more buyers as the European version of the car looks a lot classier than the Vento inspired Indian version.
New Skoda Superb
Skoda will facelift the Superb in early 2014. Expect the car to make it to the Delhi Auto Expo. The facelifted Superb comes with a new front end, again inspired by the car company’s new global design language. The rear of the facelifted Superb too will get changes. A mild refresh in the interiors will round off the updates for the Superb. Engines and gearboxes will be retained.
2014 Renault Fluence
Renault will launch the facelifted Fluence shortly. The French car company has started testing the facelifted sedan on Indian roads. The front grille is revised, day time running LEDs are added and the front bumper is redesigned on the new Fluence. A new instrument cluster, dashboard mounted Sat Nav system and an electric parking brake are few of the new features. We hope Renault India adds the 1.6 liter diesel engine that it has added to the international variants of the Fluence. The 1.6 liter diesel engine is more powerful, at 130 Bhp and 320 Nm, than the 1.5 liter K9K motor.
Latest Volkswagen Passat
Volkswagen has stopped selling the Passat in India as a facelifted model is on its way. The Passat with a facelift will be launched close to the Skoda Superb. Since the Passat is available with a diesel engine only, the car might not sell as much as the Passat. But still, as one of Volkswagen India’s most expensive products, the Passat has a lot to live up to. We’re not quite sure about the changes on the facelifted Passat. We’ll have to wait for January-February 2014 to find out.
Forthcoming Toyota Corolla
The Toyota Corolla, a global best seller, got an all new model last year. Toyota might launch the new version of the car in India next year. The 2014 Corolla looks a lot more trendier than the older version. Along with a new design, Toyota has also increased the size of the Corolla. So, you get a roomier car too. The car also gets new interiors. For India, Toyota is expected to retain a 1.8 liter petrol and 1.4 liter diesel engine. The new CVT automatic gearbox and a 6 speed manual gearbox will be offered on petrol engined models. The diesel engined Corolla will continue to be a manual gearbox equipped car.
Honda Accord Hybrid
The Accord has just been discontinued in India. The car will make a comeback sometime next year and the latest rumour in town from Zigwheels says that Honda is thinking about a Hybrid Accord for India. As Toyota has already launched the Camry Hybrid in India. the Hybrid Accord will be Honda’s way to showing off its technological innovation through its flagship product. The car buyer will get diesel like fuel efficiency in a petrol car due to the Accord’s Hybrid technology. Will it sell? It will if priced sensibly.
