2011 Maruti Suzuki SX4
The Maruti Suzuki SX4 is a good car with decent equipment levels, comes in at a decent price and finally has the Maruti badge on the bonnet. All os this couldn’t make the SX4 Sedan a hot cake, like other Marutis. So, come February, the 2011 Maruti Suzuki SX4 will get a diesel heart and along with it, probably a minor facelift. Will that be enough to spur SX4 sales on and make it a bestseller? We give you five reasons as to why the Diesel SX4 could put the bang back into SX4 sales.
Reason 1: It is a Maruti.
Like it or not, the Maruti badge on the bonnet is something that India swears on. You can’t really go wrong with a Maruti, what with 872 Maruti dealers and 2,740 Maruti Authorised service centers in almost very nook and corner of India. Peace of mind. That is what you get when you buy a Maruti and why should the Maruti Suzuki SX4 Diesel be any different?
Reason 2: The Fiat sourced 1.3 MJD VGT Diesel Engine
The SX4 Diesel will come with the tried and tested 1,248cc, 90 Bhp- 200 Nm, Fiat Multijet Diesel engine which is currently doing duty in the Fiat Linea and the Indigo Manza. Known for it’s frugality as well as it’s terrific performance, this gem of a diesel engine has been an epitome of reliability and thus is very highly regarded.
Reason 3: Maruti’s Brilliant Diesel Engine Tuning
Get this straight. Maruti knows a thing or two about how to tune cars and here’s why. The Fiat Palio MJD, when compared to the Maruti Swift Diesel was a slug. It wasn’t just slower but also was less frugal that the hoot-to-drive Swift. This, with the same engine under the hood makes Maruti’s engine tuners look like geniuses.
Especially when you consider the fact that both the Palio and the Swift LDi weigh an identical 1065 kilos. The SX4 will weigh 70 kilos lesser than it’s competition, read the Manza and the Linea. So, that should give you an idea as to how the SX4 Diesel will perform after the Maruti engine tuners work their magic.
Reason 4: One of the cheapest-to-buy sedans in it’s class
The Maruti Suzuki SX4 Diesel will cost in the whereabouts INR 7.5 Lakhs Ex-Showroom Delhi. That is a massive price saving, especially when compared to other cars like the Volkswagen Vento Diesel and the Fiat Linea Diesel. This superlative price along with decent equipment levels makes the SX4 Diesel a very tempting proposition that could really turnaround the SX4 sales for Maruti.
Reason 5: It’s all about the ground clearance, baby!
The SX4 has always been a muscular car that won’t be flummoxed by bad roads given the fact that it also sells as a soft roader in may European markets. Hustling it on bad roads where other sedans would be reduced to a mere crawl is possible as the SX4 has a high ground clearance, which at an SUV like 190mm is the highest in it’s class. So, say goodbye to scraping that speed breaker of having to baby your car through the omnipresent potholes on Indian roads.
So, there, those are five good reasons on why the Maruti Suzuki SX4 Diesel is a sedan worth watching out for when it does launch sometime in February. We, for our part, hope that Maruti manages to cut down the huge waiting list that seems to accompany every diesel Maruti.
