After the vanilla version, the 2013 Skoda Octavia RS now shows up

Barely days after Czech automaker Skoda unveiled the 2013 Octavia sedan, we now have the images of the high performance RS variant out in the open. The RS variant of the Octavia will feature a more powerful engine along with revised suspension bits that elevate the handling to an all new level. The car is expected to feature a 2 Liter turbo petrol engine borrowed from the Volkswagen Golf, its MQB sibling. The 2 Liter motor is said to be good for over 200 Bhp of peak power, giving the Octavia RS plenty of punch to play with.

A 2 Liter turbo diesel engine, also in a higher state of tune, in this case about 177 Bhp-350 Nm, could be offered with RS badged 2013 Octavia. Given that the Octavia RS variants of the past have featured 6 speed stick shifters as standard piece of kit, we’d put our money on Skoda continuing with the same line of thought. The 2013 Octavia RS should go on sale sometime next year. As Skoda has launched both the older versions of the Octavia RS in the Indian car market, there’s a fat chance that the 2013 Octavia RS will eventually arrive here as well.

Apart from the changes under the hood and to the suspension, the 2013 Octavia RS will get plenty of visual cues to differentiate it from the plain vanilla models. The front end gets a new bumper job featuring a honeycomb grille while the vRS badge occupies pride of place on the grille. The daytime running lamps occupy the space hitherto reserved for the fog lamps. These DRLs are expected to be adjustable for intensity and could also come with the nifty feature of self dimming during turns. The alloy wheels are tasty looking 18 inch items while the car also gets cladding lining the doors.

At the rear, a boot spoiler, a flatter bumper, vRS badging and sporty twin exhausts are changes that make the 2013 Octavia RS stand out from the regular variants. Meanwhile, Skoda India is said to be selling the current generation Laura RS at attractive prices of about INR 14 lakhs, which makes it a fantastic value buy. So, if you’re in the market for a sporty petrol sedan that’ll leave you grinning ear to ear everything you attack a few corners, the Laura RS is the car that you should be looking at, this side of the Teuton trio.
