Ariel Atom range of sportscars, now in India from a starting price of INR 55 Lakhs!
Unadulterated driving pleasure. That is what the barebones Ariel Atom is all about. Master blaster Sachin Tendulkar is known to be a big fan of this British sportscar whose sole purpose is to deliver pure driving thrill and nothing else. So, you have an exposed chassis with almost every comfort of a modern day car missing, making the Ariel Atom the next best thing to an out and out Formula race car.
The Ariel Atom’s arrival into India comes days after Caterham announced its line up of cars for the Indian car market. India’s growing affluence has made it one of the m0st sought out destination for sports car manufacturers from across the world. Ferrari launched their latest supercar, the Ferrari FF on the 31st of October even as Lamborghini will respond today with the Aventador supercar.
Interglobe Limited, the folks who run one of India’s most successful low cost airline and who also are the purveyors of a raft of luxury brads including high end motorcycles, submarines and yachts through their luxury label called ESTD, are now the official distributors of the Ariel range of sportscars in India. The Ariel Atom will be what ESTD will be selling in India and two versions of the car will be available for the Indian market.
Both the 245 Bhp and the 300 Bhp versions of the Ariel Atom 3 will be available in India. The Ariel Atom 3 features a 2 liter Honda i-VTEC petrol engine in naturally aspirated and supercharged guises. The naturally aspirated version produces 245 Bhp of peak power at 8,200 rpm and 210 Nm of peak torque at 6,100 rpm while the supercharged version produces 300 Bhp of peak power for a similar torque output.
While the power and torque figures might not seem much, the real reason behind the Ariel Atom’s shattering performance is the ultra light weight of 455 kilograms, making it one of the lightest production cars on earth. This translates into an explosive power to weight ratio of over 500 Bhp per tonne, endowing the Ariel Atom 3 with supercar beating performance even as the track bred chassis means that the Atom will be a real hoot to drive on the track, for which it is originally intended for.
A nought to hundred sprint in a blistering 2.8 seconds, with a top speed of 250 Kph means that the Ariel Atom 3 will show even the Bugatti Veyron a clean pair of heels under most circumstances. The Ariel Atom range in India begins at INr 55 Lakhs for the 245 Bhp base variant going all the way up to INR 85 Lakhs for the full blown, supercharged variant. Meanwhile, here’s official comment from ESTD President and CEO Nigel Harwood,
India is fascinated by fast cars, and the Atom gives us a unique opportunity to provide a distinguished product in this category. The demand for these cars is expected to grow at 20 per cent over the next five years, presenting an exciting market opportunity. We have seen the emergence of sports car culture among the young HNIs (high net worth individuals), who seek thrill and adventure. The addition of Atom will help us strengthen our portfolio and cater to new emerging consumer segments.
