Aston Martin’s Cygnet city car as we all know is based on the Toyota iQ. In fact, it is just an ordinary iQ garnished with Aston Martin bits such as finest quality leather, Aston Martin design bits which include the iconic grille and off course an price tag worthy of the badge.

Don’t be fooled by the looks of it because underneath the hood does not lie some V12 or a V8 but a measly 1300 cc engine built by the Japanese. Currently, Aston offer the Cygnet only in the European market but now iconic sports car maker is looking at the United States as a future prospect for the Cygnet. Toyota, at present is homologating the Scion iQ which in fact is the same thing for the US.

But Aston Martin might have some different plans in store. Some of which include the latest so-called green powertrains. Aston is likely to offer the Cygnet with a battery pack in place of the 1.3 litre petrol engine. This will also help Aston meet the Corporate Average Fuel Economy standards in the US. Mind you, the EV platform is already being developed by Toyota.

Aston Martin recently launched their range of exclusive sports cars in India. The Cygnet however, is not on the company’s price list in India yet. An all electric version sounds perfect for the American market as a group of people there particularly like using electric/hybrid cars to make a statement about themselves. Secondly, the car is a bit expensive and hence exclusive making it a must have if you own a mansion in the Beverley Hills area.
