Audi A2 Concept revealed ahead of Frankfurt Motor show
Audi A2 Concept
BMW launched a sub-brand for their eco-products recently. The i-brand cars were showed to the public in the form of a the i3 and i8. History has shown, that once a German car brand launches a new product the others have followed to rival it. Audi has announced the A2 on the lines of the i3 from BMW. The new A2 will be formally revealed at the Frankfurt motor show later this month. Like the i3, the A2 is an all electric hatchback.

The Audi A2 gets its power from a stack of lithium ion batteries which run an electric motor. The electric motor is good for 85 kW of power and 199 lb-ft of torque. The car can complete the dash from nought to 100 kph in nine seconds and can accelerate to a top speed of 150 kph. Pretty descent performance figures then, for a car that saps its juice from batteries. Audi has revealed the car ahead of its formal debut along with the specifications.

The concept A2 is constructed using aluminium and carbon fibre which has reduced the weight of the car allowing for the descent performance. The Audi A2 is even lighter than the BMW i3. The batteries take around four hours to charge fully when plugged into a 240 volt socket. The Audi A2 Concept is four-door four seat hatchback with room for a small family. BMW has plans to make the i3 a car for the masses and hopes to sell the car to fleet operators in Germany.
Car-pooling is very popular among Germans and the i3 is targeted to cater to these people. Audi will be hoping to spoil BMW’s party with the new Audi A2 concept.
