Audi India “officially” contemplating the A3 Sedan for India!

Right when it was first unveiled at this year’s Geneva Auto Show, we caught onto the buzz on the floor that the Audi A3 Sedan will indeed arrive into India sometime after 2012. Now, Audi India is making some official noises about doing a feasibility study for the A3′s arrival into India, which in all probability would mean that the car indeed is a strong possibility for India. Now, why do we think so? Read on.

Just days ago, Mercedes Benz India talked about launching it’s A-Class and the B-Class range in India. With Mercedes Benz India looking to tap into the sub 20 Lakh rupee segment, it only makes it obvious that BMW India and Audi India too will want their share of the spoils. With the recently unveiled Audi A3 based on the PQ25 platform,(yes, that is the same platform on which the Volkswagen Polo and Vento are based on), Audi India launching the A3 in India looks very probable.

Also our sources, many months ago had even indicated a launch for the A3 Sedan after 2012. Coming to the A3 Sedan, the car which could be launched in India after 2012 in all probability will dump it’s high performance engine to sober down to become a perfect entry level Audi. So, both petrol and diesel engine options with a range of transmission options are expected to be offered on the Indian Audi A3.

Unlike the concept car, we’re thinking that Audi might also dump the Quattro all wheel drive mechanism on the entry level variants of the A3 Sedan in the interests of fuel economy and also to keep costs to a bare minimum. So, expect the Audi A3 Sedan to drive into India sometime in 2013, at the same time when the likes of the Mercedes Benz A-Class Sedan are likely to be launched.
