Is Audi planning Q1 and Q4 crossovers for 2013?

Rumours have started the fill the air about upcoming crossovers from Audi. These mini-SUVs could be placed below the Q3 which has just been put into production. It all started with the Q7 for Audi which is like a huge, gas guzzling, four-door SUV with an equally enormous engine under the hood. Then, Audi brought in the Q5 which was pitted against the BMW X3.

Recently Audi announced plans of an even smaller SUV and now it has gone into production as the Q3. The Q3 could be launched in India later this year of early 2012. This SUV will rival the BMW X1 which currently enjoys a monopoly (sort of) in the segment. Now, there are rumours that Audi might be planning an even smaller SUV. This new crossover could be based on the A1 hatchback and hence could be called the Q1.

If this is really the case then, the Q1 could be similar to cars like the Fiat Panda 4×4; a high riding hatchback with four wheel drive. Secondly, there are also reports of a two door crossover called the Q4. This new Audi SUV could be built on the lines of the Porsche Cajun which is also rumoured to be under development at the moment. If these cars do roll out customers will get to choose from almost five different sizes of SUVs from Audi.

If all this buzz is really true then we could see the car rolling out within the next two years. Will they come to India? Well, this will depend on how things pan out in the premium crossover segment in the next few years. We are more excited about the Q4 though, as it will be a more trendy looking SUV but we are also equally curious about the Q1 and how Audi would transform the small A1 hatch into a crossover.
