Audi RS5 and Audi A7 Sportback launched!

Audi India today, launched two new cars to add on to their portfolio in India. The A7 Sportback and the RS5 Sports coupe are the cars that Audi fans in India could buy from now on. The A7 sportback is priced at Rs 65 lakh for both diesel and petrol engines. Given the brilliant pricing, the A7 is expected to sell in numbers.

In fact, the company hopes to sell 200 units of the car of which 80-90 units have already being booked. The RS5 on the other hand has been priced competitively at Rs 76 lakh . The A7 Sportback is a car based on the Sportback concept showcased at the 2009 Detroit Motor Show. In India the car will be available with both 3.0 litre TDI and a similar capacity TFSI petrol engine. The latter is a 290 bhp turbocharged petrol engine with 490 torques to play with.

The 3.0 litre TDI is the same engine that also powers the Q7 and is rated at 245 bhp and 500 Nm. Now that’s a huge amount of torque and given the lightweight construction compared to the Q7, this Audi will definitely move. The Audi RS5 is a car targeted a young power crazed individuals. In fact, the A7 too is built keeping the young, premium customer in mind. The RS5 takes on the BMW M3 here in India. As was expected Audi has been bang-on with the pricing taking the fight right up to the M3.

The major difference between the two is obviously the four wheel drive system which gives the RS5 an edge over its rival. Secondly, the RS5 has 440 bhp compared to the BMW’s 420 bhp which again would help prospective buyers decide between the two. Coming to the transmission, the RS5 has the latest 7 speed S-tronic automatic while the M3 has to do with just 6 speeds. The only surprise of the show however came in the form of a blooper -”We’re launching the A7 in Delhi NCR because punjabis love good cars.”
