Audi India has launched the quicker version of the A6 saloon, in the form of the S6. The S6 is now being driven at the Buddh International Circuit by a few Indian journalists and this drive is a part of the car’s launch in India. The Audi S6’s prices have been announced and the car is priced at INR 85.99 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi. The car will be pitted against the upcoming Mercedes Benz E63 AMG.
The Audi S6 comes with a more powerful engine, sport suspension and other changes to make it the top end model of the A6 based car line up. Based on the Audi A6, the S6 is slightly longer as its length measures 16mm more than the A6. The Audi S6 is powered by a twin-turbo petrol engine that displaces 4 liters. This engine outputs 420 Bhp and 550 Nm.
Mated to a 7 speed S-Tronic gearbox, the Audi S6 gets the Quatto all wheel drive system. The car is capable of hitting a top speed of 250 Kph at which point the electronics will cut in and say “that’s enough sir”. No such limit exists for acceleration as the S6 can hit 100 Kph from standstill in under 5 seconds. The engine also gets a number of fuel efficiency boosting bits like an idle stop system, direct injection, brake energy regeneration and active cylinder deactivation.
Through active cylinder deactivation, only 4 cylinders of the V8 engine will work during cruising. So, this technology reduces fuel consumption of the car. Looks wise, the S6 gets minor changes. The outside of the car gets new alloy wheels and low profile tyres, S6 badges, a new front grille and elliptical tail pipes. The insides of the S6 get new leather with S6 badges stitched into them, aluminium and leather bits, and drilled pedals.
