Audi unveils the faster and lighter 2013 R8 supercar

Volkswagen group owned German luxury car maker has just unveiled a facelifted model of its flagship product, the 2013 R8 supercar. The 2013 Audi R8 supercar’s facelift comes with a host of changes, mainly on the cosmetics front, even as a full model change is just a couple of years away. The 2013 R8 supercar comes with a facelifted front, with new LED headlamps, a refreshed grille and a restyled front bumper. The refresh also extends to the rear of the car where the car gets new LED indicators and a diffuser. The Audi R8 comes with a spaceframe that is constructed fully out of aluminum, giving the supercar its light weight design.

The 2013 Audi R8 supercar will be available in three body styles, the standard design, the coupe and the convertible that Audi imaginatively calls as the Spyder. The engine options on the Audi R8 include V8 and V10 options. Both these engines manage to stay on the naturally aspirated route. Transmission options include a six speed manual gearbox and seven speed dual clutch automatic unit. The dual clutch automatic makes the R8 faster than the manual tranny although many would still prefer the stick shifter for the sheer pleasure of putting a slick shifting sport gearbox through the gates.

The V8 engine displaces 4.2 liters an puts out a peak power of 430 hp at 7,900 rpm with the peak torque of 430 Nm is generated between 4,500 and 6,000 rpm. The V8 engine will power the 2013 R8 to a top speed of 300 Kph while the sprint to a 100 Kph from standstill will be dispatched in 4.3 seconds. The more powerful V10 engine puts out 525 Bhp at 8,000 rpm and 530 Nm at 6,500 rpm. The V10 engined 2013 R8 managed to cut the 0-100 Kph sprint to 3.6 seconds while top speed also goes up to 314 Kph. All versions of the 2013 Audi R8 comes with standard Quattro all wheel drive system as standard.

Audi has a party trick up its sleeve in the form of the Plus version of the V10 engined car. The engine puts out 550 Bhp of peak power and 540 Nm of peak torque. This much power and torque, mated to the S-Tronic dual clutch automatic gearbox, means that the V10 engined Plus version is the fastest of the lot, with a top speed of 317 Kph while acceleration from 0-100 Kph is a blistering 3.5 seconds. The 2013 model of the R8 will be available from the end of 2012 in Europe while other parts of the world will get this car in the first quarter of 2013. The cost of the 2013 Audi R8 supercar begins from EUR 113,500 for the V8 Coupé, while the Spyder costs EUR 124,800. The V10 variants sell for EUR 154,600 and EUR 165,900 respectively, while the Audi R8 V10 plus is priced at EUR 173,200.

Well this German Auto-Babe is worth its cost. Its design is simply overwhelming and I would have loved to see the interior in a bit more detail. Thanks for the Audi design update.
