Bajaj unveils the RE60 city car with a claimed fuel economy of a whopping 35 Kmpl!
The Ultra Low Cost car platform is very much alive and kicking. Here the first few details of this small city car that Bajaj Auto has developed on the ULC platform. Bajaj has put together the RE60 four wheeler, which the company will position as a economical and compact urban transport solution that will deliver a whopping fuel economy of 35 Kmpl. The RE60 ULC car will run on petrol and use a water cooled four valve, DTSi engine. The Bajaj RE60 four wheeler is said to be capable of a top speed of 70 Kph, thus making it suitable more for the city than any highway.
The RE60 will seat four people in a 2+2 or 1+3 format. Judging by that, the RE60 could find use both as commercial as well as passenger carrier purpose. In other words, the RE60 could be a good replacement to the Bajaj autorickshaws currently doing duty in most parts of India. The Bajaj RE60 will thus be a competitor to the Tata Magic Zip, which was developed as a four wheeled competitor to autorickshaws. So, with the RE60, Bajaj has pulled one back by delivering a four wheeled equivalent of an autorickshaw.
The RE60 could connote a rear engine for the four wheeler and this could also mean that the passenger carrier might not have a hatchback that can be opened. The RE60′s price has not been announced just as yet even as Bajaj is planning to officially launch this four wheeler sometime in the middle or end of 2012. The RE60 measures in at 2.75 meters in length and 1.3 meters in width with a 3.5m turning circle radius. Thus, the Bajaj RE60′s footprint is almost similar to an autorickshaw, making it a safer and more stable option for urban transport.

Overaly its impressed..
the above Comments shows “INDIAN MINDSET”.
How many times Rajiv Bajaj has told that, ‘its not a car, its replacement for Auto Rickshaw.’
It won’t be launched in INDIA, its for Poor countries like Srilanka where people currently using Bajaj 3 wh Auto ricks as personal vehicle.
INDIAN Mindset won’t accept a developed Auto rickshaw.(if a foreigner does its great, but if an INDIAN does its crap).
I feel pity for people who still call it a car.its a new segment for Auto Rickshaws. Grow up people !!!
