Bajaj’s RE60 people mover to be unveiled on the 3rd of January, 2012!
In what was envisioned as a Tata Nano competitor might now turn out to be a commercial vehicle, moving people and goods. Bajaj Auto joined hands with Nissan and Renault for the ambitious ultra low cost car project. While the ULC project ran into many ifs and buts along the way, Bajaj Auto will finally unveil the offering, codenamed the RE60. The RE60 however might be more of a autorickshaw on four wheels rather than a proper car, going by the various media reports emanating about this project.
Over the past few months, Bajaj has been talking about a people and goods mover being spawned of the ULC project and the RE60 could be just that product. Other details about Bajaj’s latest commercial vehicle remains unknown at the moment and we’ll have to wait until the 3rd of January 2012, to find out more as that is when Bajaj is scheduled to showcase this product with probably a commercial launch also planned on the same day.
Also, the final pricing of this Bajaj 4 wheeler is something that will be quite interesting to note even as Bajaj’s three wheeled autorickshaws are more pricier than the Tata Nano. So, we’re quite keen to know whether Bajaj would actually undercut its autorickshaws or price it higher. Maybe, Bajaj will target the Tata Magic Zip with its latest offering which means that the Bajaj four wheeler could be priced over both the Nano and the ubiquitous Bajaj autorickshaw.
For now, it seems that the ULC car project might be frozen as Renault and Nissan have repeatedly emphasized on giving the ULC car the Renault-Nissa branding only if the car meets their rigorous standards. Whatever be the case, we’ll find out very soon.
