BMW 5 Series 2013 Plug in Hybrid Car Showcased at Shanghai, China!
Ahead of the 2011 Shanghai Auto Show, the BMW 5 Series Plug-In Hybrid Concept has been previewed. The concept car, which is based on the long wheelbase Chinese special F10 version of the BMW 5 Series Sedan features a TwinTurbo petrol engine mated to an electric motor.
The BMW Plug-In Hybrid can run in both hybrid mode as well as all petrol and all electric modes. In the all-electric mode, the BMW F10 Plug In Hybrid has a range of 75 kms on a single full charge and can reach a top speed of 60 kph. In the combined mode, the hybrid will deliver a range of an extra 400 kilometers in addition to that offered by one full tank of the petrol motor.
Obviously, the electric motor makes the BMW TwinTurbo Petrol Engine powered F10 5 Series Car a lot more frugal than the non hybrid version. Along with frugality, low emissions is the other big story that makes the Beemer a great bet. This car has been developed by BMW along with it’s chinese joint venture partner, Brilliance China Automotive Holdings Ltd, as an exclusive model for the Chinese domestic market.
The last time we met Dr Andreas Schaaf, at the BMW 650i Launch at Udaipur, we quizzed him whether BMW has any plans on bringing the F10 BMW Plug-In Hybrid to India. Dr Schaaf said that currently, they have no plans to bring in the Hybrid 5 Series Beemer to India, as the car has been developed as an exclusive China model for the time being. All said, hybrid power is definitely the future and sooner than later, we’ll find BMW Hybrid cars selling in India as well.
