BMW India launches the all new 2012 F30 3 Series sedan at a starting price of INR 28.9 lakhs

BMW India has just launched the all new 2012 F30 3 Series sedan, the sixth generation car model in the hugely successful 3 series range which has been selling across the world. The 3 Series sedan made its international debut late last year, after which it has been selling in many markets abroad. The car has received critical acclaim for being a step up from the E90 3 Series model that it replaces. The car is larger than the model it replaces and despite its larger dimensions, the use of lighter materials in its construction means that the F30 3 Series is actually 40 kilograms lighter than the outgoing model.

 The car will be available in five variants, with four diesel engined variants and a solitary petrol engined variant. the base model will be a turbo diesel engined version while the top end model will be a turbo petrol model. The new engine line up, both the petrol and diesel engines are turbocharged. Here are the prices of the F30 3 Series sedan in India, with the prices reflecting ex-showroom Delhi figures,

The all new F30 2012 BMW 3 Series sedan gets an all new front end styling with new headlamps, a new grille and new bumpers. The new front end, while giving the 3 Series model a distinctive appearance also carries on the new design language that BMW first introduced in the 7 Series model, following it up with the F10 5 Series car model. The rear of the car also sees a new design, although it retains the unmistakable BMW design language with a typical tail lamp design that runs across the model range. On the inside, the quality of materials used go up by a few notches  while the dashboard gets a redesign.
The 2013 F30 model is 93 mm longer, 37 mm wider and has a wheelbase which has grown up 50 mm. The equipment levels on the new 3 Series are head and shoulders above the current model, with a heads up display and the lates generation iDrive making it to the newer models. Due to the increase in dimensions when compared to the older model, the F30 3 Series car also gets roomier interiors, particularly for the rear seat passengers with significantly increased leg room.
Coming to the engines on offer, the 2 Liter, four cylinder common rail turbo diesel engine is carried over from the older model. This free revving turbo diesel engine generates a peak power of 184 Bhp and a peak torque of 380 Nm. This engine will propel the car to a top speed of 235 Kph with the nought to 100 sprint coming in 7.6 seconds. The turbo petrol engine is a 2 liter unit running on a twin scroll turbo charger to produce 245 Bhp-350 Nm. The petrol motor gives the car some very brisk acceleration, with the 0-100 Kph sprint coming in at 6.1 seconds. The top speed remains 235 Kph though.
Both the petrol and diesel engine are mated to an 8 speed automatic transmission, and this option is standard on all variants of the car. The car also gets start-stop and brake energy regeneration as standard on all variants. Both these features are expected to boost fuel economy numbers of the car. Talking of which, BMW claims a superb 18.88 Kmpl for the diesel engined model while the petrol engined version of the F30 3 Series is touted to deliver an equally impressive 14.79 Kmpl.
