After BMW, Mercedes Benz gets into the stripdown act
Mercedes Benz C220 CDI Car
Competition is good for you, the customer, and here’s why.
Months ago, BMW India pulled off a shocker by launching a stripped out version of the BMW 320D and pricing it at a deliciously tempting INR 24 Lakhs.
Needless to say and just as we’d predicted, the BMW 320D Corporate Edition sold like hot cakes leaving rivals Audi and Mercedes Benz gasping. This, even though the BMW 320D was in a stripped out guise.

Caught napping, Mercedes Benz India finally wakes up to reality and is now trying to fire it’s very own salvo in the form of a stripped out Mercedes Benz C220CDI. Dubbed the Executive Edition, the Mercedes Benz C220CDI dumps plenty of features along the way to it’s now alluring price of about INR 24 Lakhs, Ex-Showroom, Mumbai.
Here’s the entire list of features that get chopped off.
- Sunroof
- Anti-theft Package ( includes internal motion sensor & tow away protection )
- Paramatric Steering Wheel
- Multifunctional Steering Wheel
- Gear Selector not in leather
- Xenon Headlamps
- Parktronics
- LED turn indicators
- Mobile pre-installation
The few replacements are:
- Single CD changer
- 7 spoke 16″ alloy wheels
- Artico man made leather

Of course, not too many Indians would mind forgoing all these bells and whistles to be seen around in a Merc and Mercedes Benz India seems to have gathered wind about this. What we like is the sweet common rail diesel engine that puts out 170 horses and 400 Nm or torque.
Though that can’t hold a candle to the BMW 320D, that still makes for a very potent engine that is mighty frugal too, especially if you factor in the BlueEfficiency tag it comes attached with. Competition, can we have some more please?
