The world’s number one luxury car maker, BMW, has just refreshed the Z4 roadster for the 2014 model year. The car is expected to go on sale globally next year with an Indian launch slated to happen sometime in the second half of 2013. The car gets minor changes on the outside and the refresh can be termed as a mild facelift at best. The car gets slimmer headlamps which also get LED corona rings while the turn indicators now get chromed surrounds. A new alloy wheel design is also the part of the facelift. These changes apart, not much has changed in terms of looks on the 2014 Z4.
The car continues to retain its low slung stance with a long hood and short overhangs giving this car its sporty appeal. The 2014 BMW Z4 comes with a retractable hard top that operates hydraulically. The hardtop fits flush into the boot of the car and can be opened in 19 seconds at the mere touch of a button. On the inside, the 20144 BMW Z4 Roadster gets a bunch of changes to make for a fresher looking cabin. The interior trimmings get different colors while the leather seats get contrast stitching for more appealing looks. Also, the car gets glossy black surrounds for the air vents and iDrive infotainment system along with Anthracite finish wood trims.
Under the hood, the BMW Z4 gets a choice of two turbo petrol engines that are available in three states of tune. The entry level petrol motor is the 2 liter-4 cylinder unit that outputs a peak power of 240 Bhp and a peak torque of 350 Nm. This engine comes with two transmission options, a 6 speed manual gearbox and an 8 speed automatic gearbox. The more powerful 3 liter, twin turbo engine comes in two states of tune: 300 Bhp-405 Nm and 335 Bhp-450 Nm. Both engines get a 7 speed dual clutch automatic gearbox that improves both shift times as well as fuel economy.
The 2 Liter engine will propel the 2014 BMW Z4 to 100 Kph in 5.5 seconds while the three liter engine in the two states of tune, accelerates the Z4 in 5 seconds and 4.8 seconds. In India, the BMW Z4 is being sold with the 3 Liter engine with the 300 Bhp-400 Nm state of tune. Expect this engine to be carried over. All variants of the Z4 get three different driving modes, COMFORT, SPORT and SPORT+. BMW also has a M-Sport variant with Adaptive M suspension, 18-inch M light-alloy wheels and an M aerodynamics package.
