BMW X1 rivaling Audi Q3 crossover spotted testing in India!

Audi India could be just months away from announcing the launch dates of the Audi Q3 crossover SUV. The Audi Q3 as we all know will rival the BMW X1 which is the car that started the product race. The Audi Q3 will be the German premium automaker’s very first offering in the lower end of the premium segment. After BMW announced plans of the BMW X1 crossover, both Audi and Mercedes-Benz were forced to respond to the Bavarian auto giants actions.

Audi came out and put forth plans of a crossover that would rival the BMW X1 and so did Mercedes-Benz who have also planned the GLC on similar lines. Audi has a host of other cars lined-up in this newly created segment. The company is planning the A3 sedan for India which will be launched later on after Audi raps-up the Audi Q3 launch. Coming back to the Audi Q3, the crossover was spotted by one Devang Panchamatiya in Mumbai recently.

The car will be brought to India via CKD routes and assembled at Audi India’s manufacturing facility. The Audi Q3 is expected to get a 2.0 litre TDI diesel engine with 140 bhp of maximum power. Now, we had reported earlier that the Q3 will be priced higher than its closest rival, the BMW X1. We have learned that the Audi Q3 might be priced 2 lakh rupees more than the base BMW X1. For this sort of money, it will be interesting to see if Audi offer the Quattro four-wheel drive system on the car.

The BMW does not offer four-wheel drive on the X1 and if Audi do opt for it, this could be one of the biggest differentiating feature among the two German crossovers. We think, Audi might showcase the car at the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo and might launch the car sometime during the first half of 2012.
