BMW Z4 GT3 Sports Car: Beeming with horses
BMW Z4 GT3
For fans of Z4 sports car, here is news which is best taken with a bit of salt. The long hood will now cover a 4.0-litre V8 sourced from an M3 to conjure up the BMW Z4 GT3. Ooh we see you’ve turned a shade of mauve.
Breathe out now, because this car isn’t for the road. Yep, BMW will stick with the 335 bhp twin-turbo straight for its sDrive 35iS Z4, for now and the V8 from the M3 will be plunked in for its motorsport version meant for the FIA GT3 championships.
The mechanicals come straight off Beemer’s finest M-car, the M3. In addition, the Z4 will feature the ECU and control units from the GT2-spec M3 and a racing exhaust to boost power from 414 bhp to 480 bhp partnering 339 torques.
Other race credo’s include: a six-speed sequential ‘box sends power to the rear wheels, adjustable dampers sort the suspension, massively blistered bodywork to accommodate the wider track, new rims and slick tyres, and a front splitter, big rear wing and huge diffuser take care of the aerodynamics.
A strict diet that’s seen the addition of a fixed roof and bidden goodbye to all the luxuries has helped cut the kerbweight from the 35iS’ 1525kg to 1200kg.
Sales start this summer, and you’ll need £315,000 for the pleasure.
