Say hello to cheaper Land Rover FreeLander 2s as CKD Assembly begins this month!

A while ago, we brought you buzz about the Land Rover Freelander 2 being assembled at Tata Motors’ erstwhile Tata-Mercedes Benz assembly facility at Chikli, off Pune. While the exact timeline of the CKD operations beginning wasn’t revealed back then, now we have news emerging that the assembly operations are all set to commence later this month.

Now, Land Rover aims to put no less than 2,000 Freelander-2s on Indian roads once the CKD assembly operations begin, thus hinting at a very competitive price tag of around INR 25 Lakhs. This price or something around this range would be terrific value as the recently facelifted Land Rover Freelander 2 enjoys plenty of street cred and the snob value associated with the Land Rover brand.

Also, with the likes of the base version of the 2011 BMW X1 and the 2011 Toyota Fortuner costing around the 22-25 Lakh mark, the Freelander2 could find plenty of takers at the INR 25 Lakh mark. Apart from the 2011 Freelander 2 being assembled in Chikli, a bigger picture seems to be emerging about Land Rover’s assembly plans.

Land Rover might also begin assembling another Land Rover vehicle, probably the upcoming Evoque or the Discovery 4 pretty soon and along with that, there is also talk about Jaguar also beginning CKD assembly of it”s XF saloon in India. If that happens, the leaping cat prices could fall in the coming days, leading to higher sales.
