Chevrolet Cruze Facelift to get a more powerful engine, more spacious interiors!

The Chevrolet Cruze is not what you call a dated car. No sir, by no means is the muscular D-Segment sedan in need of a facelift, at least looks wise. But then, the folks at General Motors India seem to be taking customer feedback very seriously and hence a better version of the Cruze is all set to arrive soon. The Chevrolet Cruze that is all set to go under the knife for a facelift will get a comprehensive change both on the exteriors and on the interiors.

Along with this, even the VCDi turbo diesel engine of the Cruze won’t go untouched. Now, we already know a few of you will be salivating to find out what all the new Cruze has in store. While the current version of the Chevrolet Cruze space age dashboard and front seats feel quite contemporary with plenty of space up front, the Cruze’s back seat is a different story altogether. Cramped in terms of both legroom and headroom, many D-Segment car buyers, for whom rear seat comfort is a prime criteria aren’t buying the Cruze solely for the less than comfy back seat.

So, in the facelifted Cruze, General Motors India will thoroughly work on the back seat of the Cruze to liberate both headroom as well as leg room. Also, the Chevrolet Cruze’s dashboard plastics might get a revamp for better feel while the exterior of the car might get a few changes to keep the Cruze fresh looking. The big change however is the engine of the Chevrolet Cruze. which will now comply with Euro5 norms.

The Z-Series GM turbodiesel 2 liter Engine will now produce 163 Bhp of peak power and 360 Nm of peak torque, which will make it a segment leader with a 8.5 second timing for the zero to hundred dash. And the increase in power and torque from 148 Bhp-327 Nm, hasn’t just come about by retuning the ECU for more. The new 2.0 Liter turbocharged common rail Z-Series diesel engine now has a square design with both bore and stroke being 86mm each, which is a major difference from the long stroke design of the previous engine whose bore and stroke measured in at 83 and 92 mm respectively.

This square engine layout is designed to offer more responsiveness. The new engine will also feature a chain drive instead of the cam belt, which is expected to reduce maintenance cost as the chain drive will come with a lifetime warranty as opposed to the cam belt which requires changing at a certain mileage. The compression ratio of the engine has been reduced to 16.5:1 from 17.5:1 and the turbo boost has been raised to 2.2 BAR from the 2.0 BAR rating of the previous engine.

Therefore, the Cruze’s new Z-Series diesel engine comes with a plethora of changes that is expected to make the Cruze both faster and more frugal. The new Cruze is expected to hit Chevrolet showrooms later this year. Watch out for this very exciting car from the General!

I really love the Chevy cruze and was planning to buy one later this year(around Diwali). I just read this update that an upgrade is expected by the end of this year. When I called couple of dealers in Delhi they didn’t have any information and said they don’t expect an upgrade in the next 1.5-2 years. Hence, would request you to share some more information regarding this update. Thanks in advance for your reply.

The new Cruze with the new engine and refreshed interiors should be in Chevy showrooms by the end of this year. The dealers will try to sell you what they have currently. Hence, it is of no surprise that they don’t expect any upgrades.
