The Chevrolet Sail Sedan spotted doing the testing rounds in Pune!
A few months ago, images of a camouflaged Chevrolet Sail Hatchback were splattered all across the interweb. The Sail Hatchback will replace the Aveo U-VA and thankfully so as the U-VA is way past its sell by date, not to mention that it is available only with a petrol motor. Similar is the story of the Aveo sedan, which seems to be around just to ensure that GM India has a C-segment sedan in its line up. Both these models will soon get the boot, and today we have some proof. A camouflaged Chevrolet Sail Sedan was spotted doing the testing rounds in Pune by our friends over at GoaOnWheels.
While GM India dug into Daewoo offerings to come up with th Aveo U-VA and the Aveo sedan, the story shifts to China with the Sail hatchback and sedan. Like the hatchback version, the Sail sedan has been developed by SAIC, the Chinese automaker which holds a 50% stake in General Motors India. So, the Sail sedan also will have distinct Chinese genes, in a sign indicating the growing presence of Chinese cars in India. The Sail sedan, like the recently showcased hatchback version is expected to have some nifty packaging on the insides to liberate plenty of cabin space.
Both petrol and diesel power will be on the anvil. The petrol motor is expected to be a 1.4 liter S-TEC unit while the diesel engine could be a VGT version of the 1.3 liter Multijet(Jet Diesel engine in GM speak) that GM co-developed with Fiat. The diesel engine will finally bridge the gap that GM India has long struggled with, as the lack of a diesel engine in the Aveo’s portfolio has made it a sluggard of sorts although GM does offer a petrol-CNG dual fuel version of the Aveo. While the Sail hatchback is expected be launched in the second half of 2012, there’s no word on when the Sail sedan will make its debut, although we think that it shouldn’t be very far off from the hatchback’s launch.
