Chevrolet-Wuling CN100 /Hongguang will take on the Innovas and Ertigas of this world!

General Motors India displayed the Chevrolet CN100 a.k.a. the Wuling Hongguang MPV at the ongoing 2012 Indian Auto Expo. This MPV which has Chinese roots is originally designed and manufactured by an SAIC group company, Wuling, but is also sold across many countries of the world as a rebadged Chevrolet CN100 MPV. For the Indian market too, Chevrolet will use its bow tie on the bonnet and position this MPV as an alternate to the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and the Toyota Innova.

To do just this, either the 1.3 liter Multijet diesel engine or the ICML sourced 2 liter common rail turbodiesel engine is expected to plonked into the CN100 MPV’s engine bay, giving it diesel power, a staple fuel of choice in the Indian MPV segment. Incidentally, the Chevrlet Tavera NEO3 just received the ICML 2 liter common rail diesel engine to attain BS4 compliance. General Motors is yet to reveal in what state of tune the diesel engine on the CN100 MPV will be.

While details such as these and the price are things that will be known only during the time of the launch, what we know for a fact is that this MPV will be launched in the Indian market in 2012. The CN100 MPV will be available with an option to seat 7 or 8 passengers. Also,the MPV is expected to get AC vents both at the front and the rear, while also getting ABS and airbags as optional safety equipment for the top end model.

Expect the Chevrolet MPV to be positioned above the facelifted Chevrolet Tavera NEO3 MUV, which will be launched very soon in the Indian market. A launch in the middle of the year is what is expected of the Chevrolet CN100 MPV. All said, the Indian MPV segment is seeing a range of new entrants with the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, the Chevrolet CN100 and the facelifted models of the 2012 Innova(just launched) and Xylo all slated for 2012 launches.
