Nissan’s low cost wing, brand Datsun, will reveal a new hatchback, tailormade for the Indonesian car market on the 17th of September. A few weeks back, Datsun revealed the Go hatchback, a car based on the Nissan Micra for the Indian car market. For the Indonesian car market, a new Datsun hatchback is probable as the Nissan had earlier announced that the Datsun cars will be tailormade for specific markets. The Datsun hatchback for Indonesia will also come with heavy local sourcing. A competitive price tag and local production for the Datsun hatchback are likely.

We are not sure if Datsun will unveil the 800cc i2 hatchback in Indonesia on the 17th September. We think that a slightly tweaked version of the Go hatchback will be unveiled in Indonesia as well, as a completely new car doesn’t make sense. Remember, Datsun will use Nissan’s older car platform for the low cost products designed for emerging markets. Datsun will also showcase a sedan in Russia. The low cost sedan could make an appearance in Russia by the end of this year. All Datsun low cost cars will go on sale in their respective markets from 2014.
In India, the next Datsun car launch will be the 800cc engined i2 hatchback. The i2 hatchback will be priced well below 3 lakh rupees and will come with a petrol engine that displaces 800cc and that has been developed in India, at Renault-Nissan’s technical center in Chennai. The Datsun i2 will be aimed at the Maruti Alto 800 and the Hyundai Eon. A Renault small car, with the A-Entry code name will share its platform with the Datsun i2. Along with the Datsun i2, the Renault A-Entry could also be launched in India during 2014. In India, all Datsun cars will be sold and serviced through the Nissan sales and service network.
