The Detroit Auto Show has a lot in store for auto lovers. Ford introduced its C-MAX hybrid at the Detroit Auto Show 2011. This will be Ford’s first production hybrid vehicle which is expected to hit the roads in 2012. Ford claims that the C-MAX has a better fuel economy than Chevrolet Volt.

The C-MAX Energi is a 5 passenger MUV( Multi Utility Vehicle) running on a Lithium ion battery and an electric traction motor working on highly efficient Atkinson Cycle Gasoline engine. The working of the vehicle is such that it runs in electric mode before changing to gasoline engine and hybrid mode when the battery is discharged.

The vehicles range is estimated to be more than 500 miles using battery and engine which is more than any other similar segment vehicle. The C-MAX can be charged using the same 5-point plug which is used in Ford Focus Electric. One can easily recharge the vehicle using a standard 120 volt home outlet to about 100 % overnight.

C-MAX Energi will have an array of on-board and off-board driver information systems which will help the users to take care of the recharging. These features include managing an eco friendly route, controlling the vehicle’s charge and monitor battery state of charge. Considering hybrid vehicles as a green option for the future, the C-MAX promises to be a Next Big Thing.
