Honda SIEL is said to be giving finishing touches to diesel versions of both the Honda CR-V and the Honda Accord, both of which are slated to be launched in India come mid-end 2011. The arrival of the BMW X1 will all but glean away the Honda CR-V buyers and this seems be just the right time for Honda to give the CR-V a breath of life by plonking in a diesel engine into the capable soft roader’s engine bay.

The rumors of the Honda Accord getting a diesel engine has been doing the rounds since quite some time now and if dealers are to be believed, mechanics from Honda dealerships across India have already been trained by Honda to service and maintain the diesel engines that will power the Honda CR-V and the Honda Accord. The diesel engine in question could in all probability, would be the 2.2 Liter i-Dtec engine producing about 180 Bhp.

This engine could be used in both th Honda CR-V and the Honda Accord with a high degree of localization that could enable Honda to keep a tight rein on the added costs of the diesel engine. That, if not anything else would be the key here as both the Honda Accord and the Honda CR-V have the BMW 320d Sedan and the BMW X1 for competition, which in other words means that Honda will require more than just it’s stellar Japanese quality to tip the scales in it’s favor.

    I guess sometimes u need competition to push things which are overdue. All said and done, Honda should come out with these products at the earliest and above all keep those prices in check cause that will play a very important role in the number game. Rest assured the quality,service and comfort these vehicles provide, they should do well.
