Edit: Fiat Grande Punto 1.6 not coming; NDTV’s CnB Show meant the Volkswagen Polo 1.6 instead

This is what happens if the producers of TV shows are a little less sharp than they usually are. Siddharth Patankar’s slip-of-the-tongue-moment of calling the Polo 1.6 the Punto 1.6 resulted in half of the Fiat Enthusiasts’ brigade fervently hoping for the 1.6 liter multijet diesel engine version of the Fiat Grande Punto. Alas, it isn’t to be as the TV presenter finally cleared the air by tweeting that he meant the Polo 1.6 Petrol instead of the Grande Punto 1.6 Diesel. All said, the cheer still remains, even though the manufacturer spreading it has changed.

2010 Fiat Grande Punto 1.3 VGT Multijet

The Volkswagen Polo with the 1.6 Liter heart will produce close to 105 Bhp and is expected to be the hot hatch that finally replaces the erstwhile Fiat Palio 1.6′s hot hatch status in the Indian market. Fiat enthusiasts though, will have to be content with the 90 Bhp that the Fiat Grande Punto 1.3 VGT Multijet will produce. The silver lining however, is the fact the Grande Punto 90HP will be launched this Thursday, at a price that we hope will be not more than INR 50,000 over the existing top of the line Fiat Grande Punto Multijet.
