Porsche Boxster E: The Boxster goes Electric
2012 Porsche Boxster E
Porsche is unwrapping a brand new car named the Boxster E, which is an all electric version of the very popular Boxster model. It is now being tested to find out it’s suitability for the real world. Alright then, this is not an ordinary Porsche with the flat six boxer engine, burning rubber and guzzling gasoline. But the Boxster E will be quiet, I mean really quiet with almost no sound at all. The car will have low rolling resistant tyres and non super car like top speed.
Also you will be able to go only 80 kms away from your home per charge, which is pretty bad. Not to worry though, as there is another electric car called Tesla Roadster which lasts for longer distances. But who would buy a Tesla over a Porker even though the Boxster E, seems more like an anachronism to the Porsche brand and the scores of Porsche aficionados. What this car has is 180kW ( 241hp) of solid electric power from it’s electric motor with AWD.
The motor is powered by a 29 kWh of battery pack capable of delivering a range of 100 miles ( 161 km) if you drive like your grandmother and a 0-100 km/h in 5.3 seconds if you feel like flooring the gas pedal. Jekyll and Hyde anyone? All said and done, what’s a Porsche without the rasp of the air cooled boxer flat six? That is the biggest thing that Porsche would have to figure out before thinking putting the Boxster E into any kind of serial production.
