Facelifted 2012 Suzuki Splash(Maruti Suzuki Ritz in India) launched in Europe
Suzuki has launched the facelifted version of the 2012 Splash hatchback in Europe. The Splash, is exported to Europe by Maruti Suzuki, which also sells this car in India. For the Indian market, the Splash is known as the Ritz and is quite a popular car due to its frugality and tall boy design which makes ingress and egress a veritable ease. However, the Ritz’s quirky looks is something that not everybody have been able to digest. Therefore, Maruti Suzuki has just given this car a mid life cosmetic makeover to make it a little more appealing.
Coming to the new cosmetic bits, the front grille is an all new item and so is the front bumper with a revised design. The rear bumper too gets a new design and these changes on the exteriors make the Ritz longer by 45 mm. The cosmetic changes aren’t just limited to the exteriors of the car as the interiors too see a once over in the form of the design and the colors of materials used. The dashboard gets a new design while the colors of the materials used in the interiors are also new, endowing the interiors of the 2012 facelifted Ritz with a modicum of freshness.
Under the hood though, there aren’t any major changes. For the European market, Suzuki offers a 1 Liter-3 cylinder K-Series engine, that cars in India like the A-Star and the Alto K10 come with. This three potter generates 67 Bhp-90 Nm. Also on offer is the 1.2 Liter K-series engine with dual variable valve technology. The larger engine outputs 91 Bhp and 118 Nm. Both the 1 Liter and 1.2 Liter petrol engines are mated to 5 speed manual transmissions. Also on offer is a 4 speed automatic gearbox for the 1.2 Liter K-series engine. On whether the automatic variant of the Splash will be launched in India is a moot question.
The European version of the Ritz comes with a start-stop system as standard in both the 1 Liter and 1.2 Liter petrol engined models to deliver better fuel economy. For the Indian market, Maruti will offer the 1.3 Liter Fiat Multijet turbo diesel engine along with the 1.2 Liter K-series engine. The Multijet diesel engine is good for 75 Bhp-90 Nm and is already being offered on the current Ritz. So, expect Maruti Suzuki to tweak the engine for better fuel economy as it has done with the all new Swift’s diesel engine. Expect the Indian version of the facelifted Ritz to be launched in the coming months.
