The Frankfurt auto show is one of the biggest annual auto expositions. Every automaker knows the importance of the annual auto fair for the exposure the upcoming cars get at Frankfurt. It is not just cars from the volumes segment that are launched but even sports car makers opt to launch their new products at Frankfurt. Last week we told you that Lamborghini will be launching the track-special, production version of the Sesto Elemento super sports car at Frankfurt.

Now, it is their rival who has decided to arrive at the show with a masterpiece of automotive design. Ferrari will launch the convertible version of the uber-exciting Ferrari 458 Italia, the Spider at the Frankfurt auto show. The Ferrari 458 Italia in coupe guise is hailed as one of the best handling sports cars of this era and one of the best Ferrari has ever made. Now, this makes it very special and just imagine how the car will look when it drops its top.

Also, the new Ferrari 458 Italia Spider will get a folding metal origami unlike its predecessor which had to do with a soft top. It is believed that the new roof is a design marvel in itself and is one of the most complicated parts on the car apart from the on-board electronics. Chopping-off the roof will have resulted in a rise in weight of the car but, Ferrari engineers will have taken care that they don’t exceed a certain limit as doing so will ruin the whole driving experience altogether.

The new Ferrari 458 Italia Spider will get the same 4.5 litre V8 from the hardtop which puts out 570 thundering horses and 540 Nm galloping torques. The hardtop version manages to clock 325 kph on the speedo but, the convertible version might be limited to a lower figure. The same dual-clutch 7-speed gearbox will help lay the power down with 0-100 kph sprints coming up a tiny bit slower than its coupe cousin. However, the 0.1-0.2 sec delay should not stop one from buying the Spider as it will be one of the coolest automobiles on the road.
