Ferrari will soon launch a replacement for one of the Maranello supercar that was proudly named after the company founder, Enzo Ferrari. Ferrari CEO, Amedeo Felisa has confirmed that the replacement for the Ferrari Enzo will have a mid-mounted V12 powering it. The new supercar will be built around a carbonfibre chassis that will light as well as strong. Felisa said this at the launch of the Ferrari 458 Spider while talking to Autocar representatives.

The supercar maker isn’t ruling out a hybrid powertrain either. Ferrari is in fact testing prototypes powered by a hybrid system which might make it to production. The latest emission standards have forced all car makers to offer more fuel efficient cars to customers. Ferrari is no exception and is working to meet the new emissions and efficiency guidelines. The new car is expected to borrow bit from the superlight Millechili concept.

The aim will be to build a super lightweight supercar complete with the latest technology developed on the race track. The next generation Ferrari supercar is expected to debut by the end of next year but Ferrari has no plans to employ the carbon fibre monocoque on its other production cars. This type of construction will be kept exclusive to the limited production supercars like the Enzo.

That said, we could expect technologies like the KERS to debut on road cars of the future. KERS or Kinetic Energy Recovery System was introduced to the sport of Formula 1 in recent times and the research that has gone into perfecting this will surely help Ferrari improve their cars in the years to come.
