Fiat Grande Punto EVO not in the list of models to be launched by Fiat on January 3rd, 2012!
The Fiat Grande Punto Evois what the Punto should have been ideally facelifted with, but sadly that isn’t the case. While Fiat India will unveil the 2012 editions of both the Linea sedan and the Grande Punto hatchback, these cars will be versions with minor facelifts rather than anything comprehensive, both visually as well as mechanically. We’re hearing that the Grande Punto Evo will not be launched in India anytime too soon and that confirms our assertion that you can only expect refreshed interiors and a visual change or two on the 2012 Linea and the Grande Punto.
This information was relayed to us by AutoCarIndia editor, Hormazd Sorabjee. It has been close to 3 years since both the Linea and the Grande Punto have been launched in the Indian market and ever since, the only changes, although very welcome ones, these cars have got are in the engine department. The Grande Punto got a 90 Bhp 1.3 Liter diesel engine although the gearing still didn’t fully utilize the 90 bhp and 200 Nm that the free revving diesel engine produced. The Linea on the other hand got a super sweet 1.4 Liter turbo petrol engine with a solid turbo kick, which again is what the Linea should originally have been launched with.
Here are a few changes we’d love to see and so would many prospective customers, on both the Grande Punto and the Fiat Linea’s 2012 models, when they are unveiled on the 3rd of January, 2012, days before the 2012 Indian Auto Expo.
* Refreshed interiors
* Improved ergonomics, especially the positioning of the A-B-C pedals.
* Better gearing on the Grande Punto
* Better fit and finish
These changes would make the solid cars a good proposition, especially if Fiat does manage to quickly roll out the standalone Fiat dealerships and service centers, that it has planned for the Indian market.

Well, in reality the picture posted above is not the Grande Punto Evo, rather it is of the Punto 2012 which is just about getting launched in Europe.
So there is not much point in bringing about a model which is already obsolete internationally. Instead, I would much rather have FIAT take their time and launch the full new Punto 2012 model and also take their time and launch their Multi-Air engines in India.
Dear Pani,
It is the 2012 Punto, as per its caption and not the Punto Evo. This could be the facelifted Punto and hence we used this image in our story. Hope this clarifies it for you.
Fiat will bring in new models only after 2013. In the meantime, Fiat plans to work on their independent dealerships and service centers.
Cheers,
Jay
The new punto evo looks cool, the front bumper looks amazing and the headlights gives it a cute look. It appears to be a good car in the small car segment.
All international brands wants to dump there outdated product in India and they thinks that indians are happy with 2005 model punto…Bull shit…
