Force Motors really wants to be taken seriously in the passenger car segment. The company which has been known for it commercial vehicles now has entered the most lucrative segment of the market with an SUV. The Force One SUV was launched recently in Mumbai. The Force One is priced at around Rs 11 lakh ex-showroom. Force Motors’ very first SUV for the Indian market has diesel engine which has been licensed from Daimler.

Daimler and Force Motors have had a history of collaboration. Force Motors Limited has been borrowing technical know-how from Daimler for virtually all its people mover and SUV models. The company has chalked out ambitious plans for India and plans to launch two more vehicles over the next couple of years. Force Motors will launch a four-wheel drive version of the Force One and also an MPV. Reports suggest that the new Force Motors MPV will be based on the Mercedes-Benz Viano.

The new MPV will seat 8 persons and could share its under pinnings with the Mercedes-Benz luxury van. Force Motors is apparently bringing in a whole plant from Daimler and installing it in Pithampur where the new MPV will take shape. The Viano based MPV is expected to roll out of the Force Motors assembly plant by 2013. We could see the same engine from the Force One in the Viano based MPV as well. The Force Motors MPV could be more or less like the Tata Winger which is again a product based on the Renault Traffic.

Also, this new MPV could also take shape of a commercial van if there is a demand for such a vehicle in the market when it rolls out. Force Motors also plans to make a 28-seater version of the Traveller which at present can seat a maximum of 21 people. So going forward, Force Motors does wish to be among the top players not only in the commercial segment but also in the passenger vehicles segment in India.

Even TATA Motors is making same kind of vehicle on same platform and they have also bench-marked same vehicle… i wonder when Indian manufacturers will go ahead of benchmarking (reverse engineering) and create something totally new..
