Ford 1 Liter EcoBoost turbo petrol engine now has an ECU remap option for the power hungry petrolheads
Power hungry is perhaps the most apt description of a petrolhead for whom more power is never enough. It is these group of enthusiasts, who take to power boosting options like ECU remaps, turbo upgrades and high compression pistons like fish to water. The Ford EcoBoost 1 liter, three cylinder engine is a jewel, with the forced induction motor even going on to win various awards for being the best low displacement turbo petrol motor. The engine, while being quite powerful is also highly fuel efficient with tail pipe emissions kept to a bare minimum.
The 1 Liter EcoBoost turbo petrol engine, in stock guise delivers 125 Bhp of peak power and 170 Nm of peak torque. This engine also has an overboost function which further boosts torque by a further 30 Nm, to 200 Nm. Now, this engine has just got an aftermarket ECU remap, supplied by chip tuning specialist SuperChip. Now, if you’re wondering what ECU remapping or chip tuning is all about, we’ll deconstruct that for you. Every ECU contains a computer program or code programmed into it. This code in the ECU, is the brain of the engine, that determines the injection of fuel into the engine.
The ECU basically controls the amount of fuel supplied to the engine under various conditions. Therefore, by varying the amount of fuel injected into the engine, governed by the ECU, the power and torque of the engine can be altered. Car makers, especially the ones producing cars for the mass market, usually program the ECU for an ideal compromise between engine life, fuel economy, power-torque and tail pipe emissions. So, most production cars come with a mild state of tune, with the bias more towards high fuel economy and lower tail pipe emissions rather than outright performance.
This is where the aftermarket ECU tuners like SuperChip step in, and offer much ECU remaps that focus on outright performance, across the rev range rather than high fuel economy and low tail pipe emissions. Coming to the 1 Liter EcoBoost turbo petrol engine’s ECU, the folks at SuperChip have tuned the ECU to produce a peak power of 145 Bhp and a peak torque of 226 Nm delivered at 2,650 rpm, which is 500 rpm lesser than the stock torque output.
This means that the Ford Focus with the SuperChip remapped EcoBoost turbo petrol engine will not just be faster in terms of acceleration but also much more responsive across the rev range with driveability getting a big step up due to the torque boost coming at a lower rpm. Given that this very engine is expected to make a debut on the EcoSport crossover, Indian petrolheads will now have a ready to bolt on go faster performance mod. The SuperChip remap for the EcoBoost 1 Liter engine costs GBP 455 or about INR 40,000.

Awsome work guys keep tuning and Keep it up :)
Will the re-map program be on bittorrent?
I wonder how it will affect MPG and how it will affect the catalytic converter, since the engine may run richer and provide more work and higher heat levels from the cat.
