Ford India has plans to launch 8 cars by 2015. In these four years, we can expect two car launches every year for the Indian market. The first however will be the all new 2011 Ford Fiesta Sedan which will arrive in July or August. Soon after, the Ford Focus Sedan will arrive into India in 2012 according to a very reliable source!

Now, why are we suddenly bringing the Focus, erm into focus? That is because a certain ford Focus Sedan has been spotted doing the testing rounds in and around Chennai on multiple occasions with camouflage on. A Ford India representative, also confirmed the presence of a test mule to one of ICB’s correspondent very recently.

When the Ford Focus arrives into India in 2012, it will take on a very crowded D-segment in India which features the Skoda Laura, the Volkswagen Jetta, the Toyota Corolla Altis, the Honda Civic, the Chevrolet Cruze and the soon-to-be launched Renault Fluence. Now, that is quite some competition. Let’s see what the Focus might bring to the table.

When we spoke to Mr Michael Boneham who heads Ford India during the 2011 Ford Fiesta unveil and asked him about Ford India’s slew of car models for India. Particularly,we also queried him about the possibility of Eco-Boost engines arriving into India. Mr Boneham, back then said that EcoBoost engines would indeed make it to Indian shores.

But he also declined to tell us as about which Ford model the EcoBoost turbo petrol engine would be plonked in. Folks at Ford India also said that Ford India is considering both the C-platform and CD-platform cars for India. Now, the Ford Focus Sedan in markets abroad is based on Ford’s C-Platform and comes with the 1.6 Liter turbo petrol engine which Ford calls Ec0-Boost.

These petrol engines are not just powerful but are also frugal and low emissions due to turbo-charging and variable valve technology. There’s a good chance of the 1.6 liter eco-boost engine producing 150 Bhp and 274 Nm arriving into India.

Also, Ford might launch the Focus with a de-facto 2 liter TDCI Diesel engine that produces 138 Bhp and 306 nm as a diesel engine absolutely necessary for success in the executive sedan segment. Pricing should be in the ballpark of the current D segmenters!
